Wooden Wonders We’d Like To Have French Polished: 6. De Havilland DH.98 Mosquito Aeroplane
The legendary De Havilland DH.98 Mosquito is famously known as the “Wooden Wonder”, precisely because the majority of it’s construction was made of various wood elements. Although Britain had access to Aluminium, this material was predominantly directed towards the production of Spitfires and Hurricanes, so the Air Ministry decided to investigate the possibility of an aircraft which could make the most use of non-strategic materials.

Originally found in Virgil’s The Aeneid, the mythological Trojan Horse from classical Greek literature continues to enthral to this day. As the decisive factor of the Trojan War, the horse was created to appear as a victory trophy to the people of Troy following the Greeks failed ten year siege of their city.
